It's been a real fun year that involving heaps of travelling and the opportunity to be on the water almost every day; competing in all PWA Wave Slalom events and ending the year with a 7th place in Germany. Early in the year I won the Lancelin Ocean Classic Marathon for the 5th time 3 years in a row. And in Oktober managed to break my PR speed sailing with a max speed over 86 km per hour - with such ease that in the right conditions and new Fanatic speed boards coming out early next year, it will be very possible now to reach new records over 90 kmph!
It's always hard to say what the next year is going to bring, although the Lancelin Ocean Classic is back on for the 26th year in a row early January, showing that West Australia is the ultimate mecca for water sports. The PWA tour is healthy with lots of events on the program starting in Vietnam end of February, Korea and Croatia in May, the Canaries in July, Turkey, Denmark, Germany and finally Cape Verde. Who knows, maybe some day the Cape Verde event will even be a grand slam? Surely the location is perfect for Wave, Slalom and Freestyle.
I definitely want to surf more and sleep less; and another wave ridden is another wave used!
Too many waves are going by uncaught and its our job to make sure we are making full use of nature without destroying it. Make surf, not war! Hope you have a wonderful christmas and a good slide into the new year, rip it up, Peter.
