Een eerste interview met Ben (via Google translate):
First big transfer of winter, the Netherlands Ben van der Steen sail under the colors of Loft Sails in 2011 and thus opens the hostilities of a transfer window looming 2010/2011, once again, this eventful year. At 31, NED-57 is part of the big hopes in slalom and it's a big bet that it is joining the sail by Monty Spindler. Interview!
Windsurfjournal.com: Why did you decide to change and navigating with sails Sails Loft in 2011?
Ben van der Steen: It all really started in Turkey last August ... I had the opportunity to test the sails Ludovic Jossin and I really liked the feeling. And then I started hearing that NeilPryde would probably part with a few riders and more as I do not really left the team because I was paying my sails, I thought it was time to change and think future. So I approached Loft Sails and tried the new 8.6 m² to Sylt in Germany and I found it faster and easier than my sails and I was very impressed. We began to discuss more seriously the terms of my contract and I went to Tarifa in Spain to test all other sails and as all seemed very good, the choice was quickly made. When I got home in the Netherlands, I sailed with the 5.6 m² as I could not try and for a first test on the water, I beat my personal best in GPS vmax! Need we say more?
WJ: How did this test session sails in Tarifa?
BVDS: This has really worked well with Ludovic Jossin and Monty Spindler and we quickly exchanged many ideas, it was very interesting. I think we're a good team and that the products are very good for 2011. The latest prototypes of the slalom sails I tried really hard with Ludovic marched and in all areas and it is fun to attack next season ...
WJ: What is important during a change of partner like this one or another product quality, the importance of the proposed budget, a bit of both?
BVDS: For me the most important thing is the quality and performance products and the future with the brand, how we move forward together ...
WJ: We're told that you may be considering to live more consistently in Tarifa?
BVDS: My base is more than ever the Netherlands but it's true, I'll spend more time now to work in Tarifa in the development of sails Sails Loft but also to go to. Tarifa is more than ever one of the best places for windsurfing in Europe.
WJ: What do you think of your 14th place in slalom on the PWA World Tour this season?
BVDS: I had a good speed this year but I also had some bad luck, including events where we've made little handles. It really does not end as I will have hoped but at the same time, there is a potential and I think that with more testing, adjustment and training, 2011 should be an interesting year.
WJ: In your opinion, what do you miss he'll be in the top, maybe the top 5?
BVDS: It's hard to say ... What I am certain that I am capable of much better about what I've shown so far.
