Arrianne Aukes (NED-131) is now in Brazil, Jeri to train for next years Freestyle PWA tour!

She won in Jeri the local competition there!

On Sunday, the Jericoacoara Association of Windsurfers; in association with ‘EU AMO JERI’; organised a freestyle competition at the point. In typical competition fashion, the wind was not its usual self, meaning competitors rushed to rig their 5.0m sails, which don’t see so much action in Jeri!

At about 2pm the first heats were started with an impressive Brazilian force knocking out a lot of the European competitors. The moves were very radical, despite the dwindling breeze and wind shadow; everything from Culos to Skopus kept the judges attention and the crowd watched in disbelief as Edvan Souza and Ian Mouro both landed fully planning pushloops one after the other in the tense final!

Throughout the afternoon ladies heats were also sailed. Arianne Aukes dominated with a powerful display of fully planning freestyle moves. And Emmy Roosling managed to land her first ever spock in the first girls heat, which was met with a cheer from her friends on the beach!

At the end of the three hours of heats, Edvan came out on top of the Men’s Pro Fleet, with Ian Mouro in second and a stand out performance from another Jeri local ‘Sassa’ (Francisco Teixeira) put him in third position, closely followed by Chico Bento.

In the ladies fleet Arrianne (Holland) won overall, with British Maeli Cherel in second and Emmy Roosling taking third place.

A big thanks goes to all the organisers involved and the judges; Will, Bastien and Chris. It was a great day for competitors and spectators alike!

Her report

I’ve spent one month in Jeri now, and there is one month left. It was nice to be here alone for a while, meet a lot of nice people and to go to lagoons pretty often. But today my parents will arrive, and I’m really looking forward to that! So good to see them again, and to show them Jeri, my friends and the Brazilian people en culture.

Last week I decided to go on a trip to Camosim, accompanied by eight guys. Camosim is a town with a big river coming out in the ocean. The wind is stronger than in Jeri, but upwind on the river the water is super flat: perfect for freestyle.

At nine in the morning, we put all the equipment of 9 persons on one truck, and we went to Camosim. It is quite a big town, but there are almost no other tourists. It was nice to be in a more quiet and non-touristic place for a bit. The house we were staying in was pretty bad, so for the four days that we were there I barely slept.

I wanted to get the most out of this trip, so I spent a lot of time on the water, trying a lot of switch moves. I landed my first clewfirst puneta there, and it was really nice to try switch all the time. It is really hard to try switch in Jeri in the waves, and it is nice to try some other tricks for a few days. (so I definitely want to go to Camosin again!)

We came back on Saturday (by a nice trip over the beach for two hours) and I slept eleven hours. Next morning I was totally fit again...and that was necessary because there was a freestyle competition in Jericoacoara J

There were a lot of locals competing, and some other guys from all over the world. There were also two girls, so it was possible to do a girls competition. It was so cool to watch everyone doing his moves, and because it was a holiday in Brazil, there were a lot of tourists watching too.

The wind was not so strong as normally, so I took my 4.8 to make sure that I had enough power. I was not so nervous for my first heat, maybe because Jeri feels like my home spot and I’m competing against my friends. J

I had a really nice heat, I landed a lot of my moves and I was first of the three girls. They had to do another heat against each other, and the winner of that had to compete with me again. I won the second heat to, so I made it to the first place! At the price giving they said the first price of the girls was for the local brazilian girl: Ariana. (because I'm here every year..and in Jeri I learned so many moves last years) and it felt really good be named as a brazilian local :D
